The Cook Inlet Tribal Council (CITC) Youth Peer Educator works in multiple CITC service area sites to teach the Strengthening OUR Youth curriculum. As part of the CITC Tribal PREP Strengthening OUR Youth program, the Youth Peer Educator will serve as a resource for peers regarding reproductive health, sexuality and other health concerns.
Hours and locations will vary. The Youth Peer Educator is expected to help explore choices in provided curriculum and/or one-on-one encounters with peers as they occur naturally. The Youth Peer Educator will provide co-facilitation of group sessions on a regularly scheduled basis. This position is a year-long position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Participate in training using the Strengthening OUR Youth curriculum.
Learns and maintains updated information on family planning, growth and development, sexually transmitted infections and other adolescent social, sexual and health-related issues.
Provides accurate and factual information on family planning, growth and development, sexually transmitted infections and other adolescent social, sexual and health related issues to other teens and community groups.
Co-facilitates and/or assists with informational and educational sessions.
Keeps accurate records of activities.
Performs recruitment activities via presentations, phone calls and community events.
Attend monthly Roundtables, Curriculum Working Groups and other Strengthening OUR Youth events.
Document peer contacts and provide quarterly reports.
Work with staff in planning, presenting and evaluating sessions.
Turn in time sheets and other required documentation promptly.
Performs other duties as needed and/or assigned.
The Youth Peer Educator will successfully complete specified hours of training on multiple subjects related to the curriculum and working with at-risk youth.
The Youth Peer Educator will provide thoughtful, thorough and factual answers to individual inquiries from peers.
The Youth Peer Educator is willing and able to represent the agency in the community in a positive manner.

Must be between the ages of 15 and 20 years old.
High School Diploma/GED, attending High School or College in good academic standing, or enrolled in a GED/HS Completion program.
Continued employment status will be contingent upon receipt of a satisfactory state and federal criminal background check report in compliance with the 1990 Indian Child Protection Act.
Experience in youth development, social service, and/or non-profit programs.
Experience working with Alaska Native/American Indian people, knowledge of their values and belief systems and ability to provide culturally competent services.
Preference shall be given to eligible and qualified Alaska Native/American Indian applicants pursuant to P.L. 93-638 Indian Self Determination Act.
