Position Summary:The UAA Enrollment Services Communications Team seeks a student assistant to aid the Marketing & Creative Design Coordinator. Primary focus will be on graphic design with secondary emphasis on providing support for the Communications Team. The Communications Team is responsible for developing, producing, and delivering UAA’s new student marketing and communications efforts in support of institutional strategic enrollment goals. The team also provides additional marketing support for UAA Student Affairs departments and programs.
Expectations and Essential Duties:
Communicate directly with the Marketing & Creative Design Coordinator and requesters to start and see projects through to completion. Projects may include the design and creation of event posters, logos, brochures, postcards, and digital advertisements.
Use critical thinking and design skills to assist in the creation of print and digital pieces, while adhering to UAA’s brand standards.
Apply strong communication and organizational skills to assist the team with incoming project requests, and act (as needed) as a liaison between Communications Team staff and project requestors.
Participate in brainstorming sessions and be open to critique and evolution of creative work. Evaluate student feedback and industry trends to inform communication planning process.
Provide assistance to the Marketing & Creative Design Coordinator (as needed) on photo shoots.
This position participates in UAA’s student employee / supervisor program, Alaska PEAK.
Demonstrated graphic design skill and proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite 6 (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator). Illustration, photography and web design skills are not required, but are a plus.
Must produce a portfolio of no less than 5 and no more than 10 pieces showcasing graphic design ability (typographic skill, knowledge of hierarchy and an eye for balanced composition)
Strong commitment to producing quality design work
Familiarity with UAA’s Google apps (UAA Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Docs)
Ability to balance multiple projects and meet deadlines
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Experience proofreading and editing text (familiarity with AP style guidelines a plus)
Able to follow established methods of organization and a willingness to learn new work processes and tools

Typical Education or Training:
Fine arts coursework with an emphasis in design, digital art, or illustration. Demonstrated skill in using Adobe Creative Suite products to create compelling design.
Hourly Rate: $10.50
