Food Services & Facilities Assistant
Under the supervision and direction of the Cook, the Food Services & Facilities Assistant provides support and assistance to the Cook to ensure food service is delivered and the kitchen maintained with the highest of quality standards. It is the expectation of this position that in the absence of the Cook, the Food Services & Facilities Assistant will be able to deliver the food service at the same standard. This position will also report to the Early Head Start Manager in regards to basic facilities maintenance, as needed, throughout the day to ensure a safe and functional working environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Work in conjunction with the Cook to meet the goals of daily food service for the program
Understand and comply with all CACFP requirements and Municipality of Anchorage Health & Safety regulations as they relate to food service in the educational environment setting
Maintain clean, sanitary, safe, and well-organized kitchen and food storage environment
Assist Administrative staff in gathering data for the monthly CACFP claims, as requested
In conjunction with the Health & Safety Coordinator, conduct Daily Safety Check of the grounds and address issues immediately, where possible
Throughout the day, confirm parking/walkways are free from slipping or other safety hazards
Establish positive relationships with classrooms and be present when possible, to enhance students understanding and connection with the food service program
Other duties as assigned
Ability to develop positive rapport with parents, children, and co-workers
Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple activities
Possess effective communication skills and maintain confidentiality, tact and discretion
Able to independently follow an established work schedule
Lift up to 75 lbs
Repetitive bending, stretching, and stooping
Have mobility required to shop, receive deliveries, store, and rotate food as required
Work outdoors in any variety of weather
Fully capable to have visual or hearing capabilities consistent with Child Care Licensing safety requirements
Perform extensive cleaning
Light typing and word processing
High School Diploma or GED
State of Alaska Certified Food Protection Manager credential or obtain within six (6) months of hire
Municipality of Anchorage Food Worker Card or obtain within six (6) months of hire.
Must provide copy of current TB test and physical
Continued employment is contingent upon receipt of satisfactory report from a state and federal background reference check
- Two (2) years experience working a commercial kitchen or a Head Start kitchen
Hiring preference shall be given to eligible and qualified Alaska Native/American Indian applicants pursuant to P.L. 93-638 Indian Self-Determination Act.
Hiring preference shall be given to eligible and qualified current/former program parents pursuant to Head Start Performance Standard 1302.90 Personnel Policies (b) (6).
