Providence is calling an Endoscopic Technician I (Endoscopy, Day Shift, 1.0 FTE) to Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska.

The Endoscopy Technician will safely perform a variety of patient care duties such as patient observation, taking vital signs, and assisting the Registered Nurse during endoscopy procedures as needed. They will also be responsible for patient flow of outpatients and transporting inpatients, stocking rooms, ordering supplies, answering phones, and performing a variety of clerical tasks.

In this position you will:

  • Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, assist with, but is not limited to, helping with positioning or holding the patient, retrieving supplies, taking vital signs, and suctioning the patient’s mouth. Under supervision of the Surgeon or Gastroinestional Physician, assist with, but is not limited to, endoscopy procedures as needed such as upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, or gastrostomy tube placement.

  • Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, Surgeon, or Gastrointestinal Physician, observe the patients post-procedure in the observation area. Transport inpatients to and from department by stretcher or wheelchair in a safe and efficient manner, paying attention to side rails and brakes.

  • Assist with labeling specimens, maintaining the specimen log, and taking specimens to pathology.

  • Clean equipment and instruments according to hospital standards and established infection control policies. Assist with exam room turn-over between procedures such as disposing of dirty supplies and linens; wiping down counters, stretchers and carts; cleaning of scopes and accessories; setting out clean supplies; and putting clean linen on stretchers.

  • Order stock supplies for the department and assists in ordering other accessory equipment.

  • Perform a variety of clerical tasks such as filing, photocopying, maintaining records for monthly statistics, answering telephones and confirming appointments.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Completion of Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGNA) program within 6 months of hire

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Completion of a certified nursing course, Medical assistant course, or related healthcare work experience

  • Endoscopy Technician experience

  • 6 months of medical clerical or patient care experience in a health care setting
