Position Summary:The focus of the Development Officer will be to raise funds and strengthen connections with the College of Health (COH) alumni. UAA is the health campus of the entire UA system. COH is in the forefront of educating students to become doctors, nurses, and other healthcare and public health professionals and researchers. The college is comprised of 15 academic and research units focused on the state's top health priorities.

COH strives to collaborate on innovative approaches with all of our partners and stakeholders, to develop interdisciplinary resources, and to engage communities in a culture that promotes health and academic and research excellence.


10Other Responsibilities:

Serve as a liaison with the UA Foundation and UAA''s Development team.

Make and communicate decisions in regard to the establishment and maintenance of University-wide priorities in development.

Administrative duties include briefings and coordination of solicitation meetings, development travel, and University leadership briefings.

Attend University Advancement department, Foundation, college-based, Advisory board and other meetings as necessary.

15Planning and Leadership:

Provide leadership and strategic direction on philanthropic activities and planning within the college.

Design one or more units'' annual fund development plan in alignment with the overall department and University of Advancement goals, and in concert with UAA 2020. Plan(s) to include a variety of vehicles, including major gifts, annual giving, planned giving, scholarships, stewardship and alumni cultivation.

Conceptualize individual fundraising strategies to include prospect identification, discovery or qualification visits; cultivation plans; and solicitation of specific amounts. Implement, regularly assess and adjust the strategies to successfully meet specific program needs and realize strategic opportunities and annual goals.

Act as an expert resource for the deans and directors to identify, research, and analyze how alumni, friends of the university, volunteers, and related industry partners'' resources and interests apply to their programs, missions and priorities.

Serve as an expert resource to division directors, department chairs and administrative staff on all aspects of development, from prospect calls to the acknowledgement process. Arrange related cultivation and solicitation meetings and activities for Chancellor and other University staff.

On behalf of the COH Dean and Associate Deans attend various University of Alaska fundraising meetings and activities and “Howl” events.Essential


Coordinate with Lead Development Officer and Scholarship Development Officer (when appropriate) and Annual Giving Officer on prospect strategies, gift completion and gift acknowledgement.

In cooperation with the Donor Communications Specialist, create, review and execute stewardship strategies for current donors that will lead to increased and continued support.

Coordinate with University of Advancement to plan donor receptions, issue press releases and coordinate other forms of donor recognition.Essential


Conduct frequent face-to-face visits with donors and prospective donors over the course of a year to lead to new, renewed or increased gifts. Visits may include discovery, cultivation, solicitation or stewardship visits. Goal: 120 contact reports annually.

Prepare and present convincing appeals/requests/proposals to donors. Goal: 20 proposals annually.

Solicit and secure gifts ranging from high-end annual gifts to gifts that are large in complexity and scope. Meet the fundraising goals identified in an annual plan and agreed to by the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Development, and the unit dean or director.

Cultivate and solicit planned gifts. Goal : Two successful planned gifts annually.

Represent the University to various community organizations and individuals to build relationships for future gifts.

Work to strengthen annual giving, particularly among alumni. Align unit development activities with the programs and services of UAA''s Development Office.

Write grants to foundations, corporations or other giving entities for philanthropic support.

Work with executive level volunteers with the goal of cultivating them toward future gifts or working them as natural partners to cultivate and solicit other gifts.

Record visits through contact reports (CRs) and enter CRs and proposals for Raiser''s Edge reporting in a timely basis.Essential

UAA is seeking a philanthropic fundraising professional who will serve as the Development Officer located within the Office of University of Advancement. The Development Officer is essential personnel for the continued growth, development, implementation and sustainability of the UAA College of Health programming as well as the other health campuses across the state.

The Development Officer will work with university leadership and executive-level volunteers to build private support and gift-giving for a variety industry-related high-priority initiatives, which are aligned with and reinforce the university's strategic vision and extend UAA's exposure and brand. As health care continues to be the leading growth industry, not only across the state but in the nation, UAA must answer this call to develop the workforce needed to care for all Alaskans.

The focus of the Development Officer will be to raise funds for the College of Health which is home to over forty programs at the graduate, undergraduate, associate, and certificate levels across the state. This individual will be responsible for managing a portfolio of major gift and planned giving donors.


Proven effective and progressively responsible fundraising experience.

Demonstrated knowledge of philanthropic support and donor relations.

Demonstrated knowledge, ability and success in fundraising.

Experience managing a portfolio of high net worth individual donors.

Ability to balance needs of donors with institutional priorities.

Ability to represent the University with the highest degree of professionalism and positive public relations to all donor and friends at University sponsored and non-sponsored events.

Ability to identify prospects' interest areas and involve them in the University community.

Ability to research and use persuasive techniques for coordination of prospects' interests.

Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communications skills with the ability to make dynamic group presentations.

Strong planning skills, including the ability to anticipate tasks, set priorities, meet deadlines and function smoothly under strict deadlines and shifting priorities.

High‐level computer literacy skills. Experience with donor databases, ideally Raiser’s Edge.

Team player who also works well independently and meets deadlines.

The capacity to develop and maintain positive and productive relationships with donors, volunteers, boards, faculty, and staff.

Required Experience:

At least 2 years of development experience, preferably in higher education

Typical Education or Training:

Bachelor's degree in relevant field with a minimum of two years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. 2-5 years of development experience, preferably in higher education.

Minimum starting bi weekly salary: $2,065.6
