Position Summary:UAA is seeking a CT2 Electrician. This position will be responsible for assisting with maintaining campus lighting both interior and exterior. The incumbent will perform a variety of tasks in the operations, maintenance, preventive maintenance, repair, overhaul, installation and construction of electrical systems; including lighting systems, motor control circuits, control wiring, and convenience power outlets.

Duties:

Must be able to work independently and safely with little or no supervision. Must have demonstrated knowledge and skills to repair and maintain electrical systems to include their component control systems. Should have demonstrated experience and knowledge in fire and security systems to include electronic equipment. Must be able to comprehend and interpret blueprints and schematic drawings. Must have demonstrated knowledge and ability to utilize associated test equipment in the electrical industry. Must be computer literate. Must have effective interpersonal skills that include good written and oral communication skills. Must have a commitment to people and customer services.Essential

Candidate primary responsibility is to maintain campus lighting interior and exterior. The incumbent performs a variety of tasks in the operations, maintenance, preventive maintenance, repair, overhaul, installation and construction of electrical systems; including lighting systems, motor control circuits, control wiring, and convenience power outlets. Provide services for electrical systems that operate heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems to include their control systems. Maintain and troubleshoot the campus fire systems, security systems, elevators, emergency generators and electrical controls for exterior lighting.

Computer experience including Microsoft office programs preferred. NICET certification is desired. Experience with fire systems, access control systems and camera systems is desired. Applicant with previous experience in the academic environment is preferred. Welding experience a plus.

A minimum of 10 years of training and/or experience in the construction, operation or maintenance of Electrical, Electronic, fire alarm systems or related industrial trades. Candidate must be able to lift 50lbs and go up and down a Ladder. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Must possess an unrestricted Alaska driver's license or be able to obtain an unrestricted Alaska driver's license within 60 days of accepting the job. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Candidate must have the ability to work safely in ceilings, crawl spaces, chases and other confined work areas; the ability to repetitively work from ladders, scaffolds or man lifts and occasionally work outside during inclement weather situations. Will be required periodically to move and lift heavy parts and equipment. Under general supervision, perform a variety of tasks in the repair, maintenance, troubleshooting, modification, installation, and construction of electrical systems. Including but not limited to lighting systems, motor control circuits, control wiring, and convenience power outlets. Provide services for electrical systems that operate heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems to include their control systems. Maintain and troubleshoot the campus fire alarm systems, security systems, elevators, emergency generators and the electrical control for exterior and interior lighting. Operate underground utility locating equipment. Provide estimates of material and labor for various projects. Recognize electrical hazards and help assure that safe work practices are followed. Maintain records of needed repairs and modification as well as appropriate time sheet and procurement recording methods. May be required to act as a lead for other bargaining unit employees. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Experience: 10 years of extensive experience and/or education in the Electrical Trade or a related field. Electronic, fire alarm systems or related industrial trades. Typical Education or Training: Must possess and submit a valid State of Alaska Certificate of Fitness Journeyman Electrician License or be able to attain within 60 days of hire. Must possess a valid Alaska driver's license and submit a DMV Driving History record.
